Back to Diet & Nutrition...

"If we eat wrongly, No doctor can cure us;

   if we eat rightly, No doctor is needed."

                                    - Victor G. Rocine circa 1930

The human body is an amazing thing all by it self but you must maintain it properly with the right diet and nutrition in order to ensure it has the natural ability to defend, repair and restore your health the way nature designed. Eating for optimal health is possible only if we care and are willing to learn.

Eating the correct foods according to your constitution and in harmony with the environment around you is fundamental to staying well. Understanding common diseases such as colds and flu, knowing how to read their early symptoms and knowing the characteristics of foods are keys to eating right for preventive healthcare.

TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), Herbalists and Natural health care professionals believe that most diseases progress from an initial stage with obvious symptoms to develop into bigger problems with more severe health problems. If we can identify problems at the initial stage and treat them with the proper herbs and foods, we can stop them from progressing further. When diseases or conditions are not treated promptly, they become chronic in nature and are more difficult to treat.

While you are sick it is important to eat foods that are complementary to the treatment of the illness so that relief can be achieved sooner. Your health care provider should explain the nature of the problem and give advice on what foods to eat and what to avoid during that time.

Most therapeutic food dishes are eaten as meals or with meals and repeated for days or sometimes weeks until the body has enough nutrition to repair itself. The results are more comprehensive and permanent. After recovery, it is often recommended that a particular herb, food or recipe is repeated at regular intervals for prevention of reoccurrence or maintenance purposes.

Eating consciously for optimal health requires knowledge, time and effort. Investing in your food is an investment in yourself. Your health and quality of life will improve greatly.
